The house of Tybee Trees Inn was built in 1925 and bought by Joseph J. Hutton in 1953 as a permanent residence for his wife and seven children.
Joseph J.
Hutton, founder of Thomas & Hutton Engineering, expanded the original floor
plan from a two bedroom, one bath cottage to a five bedroom, three bath
family home. The Hutton’s raised their seven children in this home, before
separating the home into two separate living spaces. At that time, one of
the Hutton’s sons, John, his wife and two children moved into the upstairs
unit to raise their family. During this time, 14 grandchildren were born
into the family and the house became the location for many family gatherings
such as weddings, reunions, anniversarys, birthdays, etc.

Joseph Hutton passed away in December of 1992. His wife, Marguerite, lived in the house for six years before her health required her to move to assisted living. A
In 2003
Dennis and his wife, Kathleen, with their son, Shiloh and his wife Amber, their daughter Erin and her husband Chris, joined forces and purchased the property with the commitment to preserve the trees and existing home. Renovations to convert the house to a 3 room Inn began in the summer of 2003 and completed March 2004. The inn operated successfully until November 2006 and during that time hosted several weddings. The surrounding commercial district created an environment that detraced from the tranquility that the inn had enjoyed for two years, but everyone enjoyed the unique atmosphere and character the property possesses.
In 2008 Erin, Chris, and Kathleen decided to open an event site where everyone could have access to host their wedding, corporate event, birthday party, family reunion, or party on the property. Now you can add to the history and enjoy the special times at the Tybee Trees Event Center.....
